How to become an Entrepreneur
To become an entrepreneur, you need a lot of drive and determination. Entrepreneurs must be self-motivated and willing to work even when the rewards are not always quickly forthcoming.
Of course, it never hurts to know a little bit (or a great deal) about basic business and economics.
Entrepreneurs are either small business owners or self-employed independent contractors. They have a tendency to gravitate towards industries they have a lot of passion for. One of the biggest mistakes would be entrepreneurs make is gravitating towards an industry soley due to dreams of making money. Doing so can be a huge mistake because, without the burning passion for the field, navigating the ups and downs of the market becomes extremely difficult. Anyone can show interest and drive when the money is rolling in. What about those days when its a struggle? Giving 100% is tough after losing money for several weeks in a row, but smart entrepreneurs know how to absorb feedback about trouble in the market and develop new business plans and strategies.
All of these attributes are tempered by a formal education in business, sales, and marketing. A formal education, be it on the university level, a trade school, or an online learning program, covers all these areas.
In additional to a formal education, nothing helps an entrepreneur gain skill and understanding about the business world more than experience. Someone who starts work very young in life, even in a job with low pay and little responsibility, gains access to valuable experience necessary for running a business endeavor.
An entrepreneur must know how to set long and short term business goals and then follow through with them. Goals should be logical and attainable. What goals should never be is inflexible. A solid entrepreneur knows how to modify goals as circumstances change. Keeping a sharp eye on the market allows for being able to notice the emergence of dramatic and subtle changes. Insights such as these come from both experience and the formal learning process. Through investing the necessary time learning the basics of business in all its facets, a person who heads down the path of becoming an entrepreneur can do so on the right foot from the start. |
